It’s that time of year when the quince, after having hung from the tree for so many months, are finally plump enough for picking. In a little while our annual quince cooking spree will begin, with an abundance of jellies and fruit leathers being made to last us through to next season. Stay tuned to see the range of quince recipes we will put up over the coming weeks! For now, here is a picture of the bounty. 🙂

Note: the resource for the southern hemisphere is much more extensive than that for the northern hemisphere, so those who live in the latter might be wise to read both resources. Just keep in mind that “When it is summer in the Northern hemisphere, it is winter in the Southern hemisphere, and vice versa, and when it is spring in the Northern hemisphere it is autumn in the Southern hemisphere, and vice versa,” (Wikipedia), so you will need to convert the months referred to accordingly.

To make this process a little easier, here is a monthly rundown of the seasons as they occur in each hemisphere.

Seasons in the southern hemisphere:

  • Summer: December to February
  • Autumn: March to May
  • Winter: June to August
  • Spring: September to November

Seasons in the northern hemisphere:

  • Summer: June to August
  • Autumn: September to November
  • Winter: December to February
  • Spring: March to May
